The San Diego Chargers placed linebacker James Holt on injured reserve with a shoulder injury on Tuesday and signed Dontarrious Thomas, who played this season in the United Football League.

A Palo Alto woman is not your ordinary soccer mom, or in this case, football mom. She initially got into the sport because of her sons, but now she is breaking into the big leagues and her National Football League dream could make history.

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason and Tampa Bay Buccaneers return man Michael Spurlock were named the NFC players of the week.
 

Trailing 17-10 late in the 4th quarter, Tampa Bay Buccaneers return man Michael Spurlock fielded a punt on his own 23 yard line and returned it 77 yards for the touchdown to tie the game.  The Buccaneers would later beat the New Orleans Saints in overtime.
