At a press conference today, UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue and Las Vegas Head Coach Jim Fassel presented a $25,000 check to the Clark County School District (CCSD) in an effort to save the county’s “Hall of Fame” games. CCSD Director of Athletics Ray Mathis accepted the check on the district’s behalf.
“When the UFL learned that the ‘Hall of Fame’ game was going to be eliminated due to budgetary constraints, we felt it was very important to be good neighbors and contribute to our new community,” said Commissioner Michael Huyghue. “For some student-athletes, the benefits of an additional game are immeasurable when it comes to attracting attention from college scouts. Football, high school especially, brings communities together and we are proud to be in a position to help this tradition continue.”
The difficult economic times caused school officials to reduce its football schedule from 10 games to nine, eliminating the treasured “Hall of Fame” game. The infusion of $25,000 by the UFL will help to cover the fees for officials, transportation and security required to stage the game.
“We truly appreciate the generous donation from the UFL that will allow us to continue the ‘Hall of Fame’ games,” added Director of Athletics Ray Mathis. “Our coaches and players will all benefit from having the opportunity to participate in the added game.”
The United Football League is a new professional football league that will kick-off its “Premiere” season this October. The complete schedule and stadiums will be announced this summer. This Saturday, the UFL will be holding invitation-only player workouts at Sam Boyd Stadium.
