United Football League Hires Former NFL Executive Rick Mueller To Lead League's Football Operations

With kick-off less than four months away, the United Football League has hired former NFL executive Rick Mueller as Vice President & General Manager.  For the League’s “Premiere” season, Mueller will serve as GM to all four teams as well as overseeing all aspects of scouting and player acquisition for the League.

“Rick Mueller brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from his more than 14 years in the NFL,” said Commissioner Michael Huyghue.  “Rick has played a significant role in building winning sports franchises from the scouting of players to draft day decisions to contract negotiations. The UFL is very fortunate to have him leading the League’s football operations and working with the individual teams as we move closer to our “Premiere” season debut in October.”

As the former vice president of player personnel of the New Orleans Saints, Mueller led the Saints’ continual efforts to build a talented, productive roster.  He was responsible for all aspects of scouting and evaluations including supervising and coordinating the organization’s college and pro scouts. In eight seasons in New Orleans, Mueller helped shape the club’s drafts and free-agent classes, which formed the foundation of a team that in 2006 captured the NFC South title and advanced to the NFC Championship Game. Mueller came to New Orleans following a six-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he was instrumental in its rapid rise from expansion franchise in 1995 to AFC powerhouse.  In 13 NFL seasons, the teams that Mueller has helped build have compiled a record of 111-97 and earned six playoff appearances – including advancing to three conference championship games.

“Having built football teams for most of my career, I am well aware of the pool of talent out there that is often overlooked and could thrive in a league like the UFL,” said Mueller.  I am excited to reconnect with Commissioner Huyghue, with whom I worked in Jacksonville and I look forward to collaborating with the League’s highly qualified coaches and staff.”
