UFL Premiere Season Q & A

“UFL Premiere” Season
Q & A

What is the “UFL Premiere” Season and what can fans anticipate?

The UFL is a new professional outdoor football league that will feature high quality traditional football played by world-class athletes and will provide fans with affordable, innovative and entertaining game-day experiences.  In its “Premiere” season, the UFL will have four teams playing in at least seven cities. The four teams selected for the “Premiere” season are Las Vegas/Los Angeles, New York/Hartford, Orlando and San Francisco/Sacramento.  During the six-week season, the four teams will travel to each city for games.  The season will culminate with a Championship Game tentatively scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas.

What venues will you play in and what is the pricing structure?
League officials are currently creating new agreements with stadium operators and these agreements will be announced when finalized.  Affordable entertainment is paramount in today’s economy and the UFL will offer tickets at reasonable prices so that a family of four can afford to attend our games.  The UFL plans on offering an average ticket price of $20 for regular season games so that a family of four can attend for under $100.

Will any of the games be televised?

Yes, the UFL is in final negotiations with a cable sports network for a weekly nationally-televised game.  The UFL also plans to air games on each city’s regional sports network.  Once our agreements are complete, we will announce the details.

How long is the season and will the games be competitive?
The” “UFL Premiere" season will kick-off in October 2009, will be six weeks in length and will conclude with a Championship Game tentatively scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend.  The UFL will take advantage of the abundance of athletic football talent available, employing both staff and players of the highest caliber.  The product that you will see on the field during the UFL game will look and feel similar to the NFL with some familiar names on the field and sidelines.  In our “Premiere” season, we will be signing players who may have gone through the NFL Combine and Training Camps and have decided that our league may be a better option for them both athletically and monetarily.  Our league will also allow for the cultivation of untapped talent and the opportunity to create future professional football stars.

When will coaches and players be signed?
The UFL will begin signing players in July and training camp will start on September 1st in Casa Grande.   League officials are also in final negotiations with the coaching and office staff for the four teams.

How many teams will you have in the league and did the economy play a role in the change?
In its “Premiere” season, the UFL will have four teams playing in at least seven cities.  During the six-week season, the four teams will travel to each city for a series of games.  The original intent was to have 6-8 teams; however, the combination of the recession and the recent troubles on Wall Street left many investors unable to make the commitment we required for overall financial stability.  Outside investors have committed $30 million to insure the league’s success in its “Premiere” season and there are others who are interested and are taking a wait and see approach.

How else has the economy impacted your planning on all aspects of the league?

There is no question that the economy has played a role in our decision-making and will continue to do so for the unforeseen future.  We are confident, though, in the demand for affordable quality football in more cities and have a $30 million investment from a consortium of business executives who feel likewise.  In these economic times, people have become more discriminating with their leisure dollars.  It is unfortunate that it has become cost-prohibitive to take a family of four to a sporting event; we want to enhance the way sports is perceived and provide more value for less dollars.  Our goal is to make a fan-friendly environment for all ages as we understand that this is the only way to develop the next generation of fans.

How will you utilize your training complex in Casa Grande, Arizona?
The UFL will train and house its players in Casa Grande where a $20 million training complex is being constructed for the city and league use.  On the adjacent property of the current Francisco Grande Hotel & Golf Resort, a state-of-the-art athletic facility is being built that will encompass eight playing fields, four field houses, sports training and rehabilitation center, locker rooms, office space and other amenities for UFL year-long use.   Beginning September 1st, the UFL will train its players in Casa Grande and use its facilities throughout the six-week season.

What is the salary structure for players and coaches?
Our coaches’ salaries will be competitive with those of most NFL coaches’ salaries.  Our player salaries are on a per game basis and will be typically higher than the NFL’s minimum salaries and practice squad salaries.
