JACKSONVILLE, FL – Wednesday, May 12, 2010 – The fans of the United Football League will have a unique opportunity to influence the venue for the 2010 Championship Game when the top two teams in the regular season standings play for the William Hambrecht Trophy in November.
Several factors will determine the site for the second UFL Championship Game, including each team’s record and local support – a combination of attendance, fan club membership, social media interaction and atmosphere in the home stadium. The UFL will decide which of its five current cities will host the Championship Game following Week 4 of the regular season.
“From day one we have attempted to be as fan friendly as possible and have sought to include the fans in major decisions,” explained UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue. “This year we want to extend the opportunity for all five of the UFL markets to have a shot at hosting the game and will empower their fans to influence our decision.
“Our Championship Game will provide the host city with a financial boost during Thanksgiving week and it will give all of the football fans in the city the opportunity witness the exciting season finale. Fans will have a say in where we host the biggest game of the year and that is exciting for us as a league.”
The venue options for the 2010 United Football League Championship Game are: the Florida Citrus Bowl, Orlando (Florida Tuskers); Rentschler Field, Hartford (Hartford Colonials); Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas (Las Vegas Locos); Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha (Omaha Nighthawks) and Hornet Stadium, Sacramento (Sacramento Mountain Lions).
Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas was selected to host the 2009 UFL Championship Game prior to the inaugural UFL season and the hometown Locos were crowned champions following a 20-17 victory over the Florida Tuskers.
