Commissioner Huyghue's Blog - Quality of UFL Players

Commissioner Michael Huyghue - December 09, 2008

There has been talk on whether Michael Vick should return to professional football and, more specifically, should he play for the UFL.  The UFL will create opportunities for some NFL players; whether on an NFL roster (practice squad included) or out of the NFL for some reason.  There may be many talented players, including Michael Vick, who have the ability and desire to play in the UFL.  Our mission is to create a family oriented League which will provide all fans with exciting, affordable, and accessible high quality professional football.  Selecting players who fulfill this mission is paramount. I can assure you that the UFL will target players who represent our core values and have the potential to fulfill our promise of creating both the stars of the tomorrow and more importantly, the role models of tomorrow.

As I said in earlier blogs, it is vital our fans are partners in the overall creation of this League.  With that in mind, we are going to ask for your feedback in a variety of areas.  We have already asked for your input in naming the teams and encourage you to keep submitting.  We are also planning an online poll on whether we should pursue Michael Vick for one of our teams, if he becomes available. Keep checking back to the web for this and other interactive polls so that we can truly make this league a cooperative effort.

Commissioner we need a guy like Michael Vick ,forget what he has done in the past and look towards the future of the league and not canceling seasons like the arena football league.

I think the league should have open tryouts before the season. How many sport leagues give unkown players a chance not many with an open tryout anything is possible.

I 100support bringing Vick into the UFL if you can. Yes I will admit he messed up big time but he is human and how many of the people against vick have not messed up. He served his time and deserves this not because he is a talented athlete but because he served his time. SO BRING VICK IN AND I KNOW there are a lot of Vick fans out there and what ever number he wears I will have a home and and away jersey. I AM A FAN OF WHAT VICK DOES ON THE FEILD NOT HIS PERSONAL LIFE

I think it's great that you are asking us If we should really have Michael Vick in the league, but I think the UFL should see how things play out for him and see if he is actually better before any invitations are proposed to him.

Vick did the crime and he did the time, plus of course he lost most, if not all of his money. What he did was reprehensible and ridiculous but like all EX-convicts ( and I need to emphasize the word EX) he needs a second chance to be a productive citizen. Draft him and put him in a mid market team ( not one like Los Angeles or New York- perhaps Las Vegas). Also, don't forget the foreign players out there from the old NFL Europe- these guys would play for modest salaries just to be able to play again!

Let me begin by wishing you and all those involved with this new league very much luck and success. Also, congratulations on your appointment as commissioner. Are the players in the UFL going to consist primarily of younger, directly out of college players. The XFL was a huge bust because they had players from D1 programs but many years past their prime. What was even worse, I was a NY/NJ Hitmen season ticket holder. Ouch. Please do not follow suit. Also, will players be drafted territorially? Some leagues have used that format in the past. Take care and best of luck to you.

ok, the new york team is not a good idea, new york has two city teams and buffalo is a third new york team. why not a Virginia team? i know we have the redskins, but look at the ravens, they are closer to Washington then places a UFL team would be(like Richmond) and i believe that asses would be in the seats(mine would be) please involve a virginia team

Commissioner, bear this in mind when deciding whether Michael Vick can join (and inevitably posterboy) your league. Is the XFL completely out of the publics mind? Because if it isnt, people will instantly put a ex-criminal and football together and get memories of the XFL.

Vick is a generate individual. He is void of essential human qualities, including but not limited to self-respect, dignity and honor. The only thing Vick deserves is for dogs to use him for a fire hydrant.

Vick lead the nfl in fumbles and INt's and then got sent to prison. So I guess if you want to bring in players that are overated and have criminal records then go for it. It will gain you publicity but it will also hurt because alot of average fans will not support you because he is there. If Vick is in the UFL you can count me out I do not want my sons thinking what he did is OK.

I really do not like Vick. But with that said, I think the purpose of jail is to pay your debt to society. As Vick is "paying his debt" he should not be penalized for the rest of thier life once out of jail. However,I think the UFL should have a policy of 1 strike and you are out for players convicted of crimes like the ones Vick has commited. And make sure everyone knows this is your policy when signing Vick.

Going after quality players that need second chances is what would make the UFL a great league.Go after the Greg Coles' and Jonathan Borreros' who are great athletes just waiting for a chance to shine once again!!!!And the college kids who have no more eligiblity left and still have a great passion for the game.I live in Florida great athletes limited resources to play ball at times.

I'm still skeptical about this new league an interactive web site does not make a functioning pro football league the AAFL has already proven that. I think the XFL was on to something fresh and lost the heart to follow through. They played a pretty good brand in such a short time and made good adjustments to their formula as the season progressed. I'm asking you Is this league committed to live through the growing pains or is the UFL looking for a grand slam within the 1st 3 years? How can you expect any type of fan commitment when most leagues in recent history weren't even committed to their own cause. I'll watch from a distance and if the UFL gets to their 5th anniversary. I'll support it. R.I.P WFL USFL WLAF NFL Europe AFL SFL XFL.

we absolutely need a team here in New Jersey...Its an insult to have the NY Giants and Jets play in Jersey, yet tihe only team we have is the hockey devils ( NJ Nets will be moved to Brooklyn). Therefore we're forced to choose between the Eagles or the other two. Bring us salvation and a team of our own! And i'll be the first player ready to represent the league and its cure value of great football at a high level...Im a cornerback who is itching to play closer to home and to belong to an organization that accomodates up and comming stars as well as those currently in the NFL...Vick would be a great aquisition for the league.. he can come in and lead as both a premiere athlete and mentor.

I agree with Lee Traylor. It is crucially important that if the UFL lands Vick, that they have him make an emotional and apologetic statement to the american people. Americans are willing to forgive but we need the apology first. Also, if VIck goes elsewhere, make sure that youtry to get local players for teams (i.e. a USC player to play for LA) so that there is name recognition.

Why do we need another League that promotes retreads like Micheal Vick or Charles Rogers. These guys had their chance. I would love you guys to take a look at the European Model of Soccer. Get kids out of High School and create a Minor League System. It's still early. You would own the rights to those Diamonds in the Rough and the NFL would have to pay off the UFL and the owning teams to get rights to sign "Your" players. The UFL would develop talent instead of the NCAA getting everything and the kids getting a useless Degree in Sports Medicine. For each year of Service the Kid would get a "GI" type bill for College in case he doesn't make Pro in 4 to 5 years. Basically, it would be set up like this... Each team would get a set number of Recruitment Picks from the High School Ranks. Your scouting department would spotlight Top Notch Talent with scouts going to High School Games around the country. To make it safe and to move kids through the ranks I would put an age limit of like 23 years old. The kids would get paid, the teams would get paid like agents, and the League would get paid by the other Leagues (NFL, CFL, & Arena League). Right now you're competing with those Leagues. You would own the Market and the NCAA would be your only competitor. If you guys don't do this somebody else will eventually. I can only imagine the possibilities!

Bringing in Michael Vick does seem like a promising start to an infant league, but i will say this. How do you as a league whole want your reputation to be affected either negativily or somewhere in the middle from the very beginning. I think Vick might only hurt in the long haul and would hate to see that happen to a great league. Their are other great athletes in this country and abroad that this league can use.

Ok, I know Vick is still on everyone's mind. should he be allowed to play again? I'm not sure. I beleave in second chances for most people. My main concern is high number or egomaniacal, over-paid, adult children like T.O. and their affect on the sport. The only way, I feel, that this league will truly be successfull is to have a firm standind against this type of behavior from the players. T.O.'s ruined every team he's been on. I hope you, no, I pray that, you can control your players better than the NFL does there's. Best of luck and kick NFL butt.

Vick is paying his debt to society. Like any other person released from prison, he's looking for a job. Surely he still has some skills. And provided he remains a responsible citizen and does his job, there's no reason why the UFL can't prosper from him being in the league. The NHL and MLB sign troubled players all the time and assign them to their minor league teams. The NFL and the NBA lack that structure where they can take a small risk on a troubled player. This is where the UFL could easily fill that void for professional football. The UFL has a specific niche that it's trying to fill. It's not competing with the NFL. It's providing a place for professional football players and fans of pro football to enjoy the game. The UFL will provide on-the-field opportunities for players, coaches, and officials to grow into their jobs and allow the big-spending NFL to see talent develop. Participants know they are auditioning on every play. The fans will see that effort in their performance, appreciate it, and pay money to see it. Thus Michael Vick wiil be auditioning for a job back in the NFL by playing his heart out in the UFL. Fans will pay money to see that. Some people will watch because of Vick's notoriety, but at least they are watching and hopefully they will become fans in the process. Others will voice their objections to Vick because of his crimes, but they will be few in number and eventually drowned out after Vick returns to form.

Leave Vick out. If you want a succesfull league you only need three things: 1. Time-You need several years to build a base of players the fans can associate with. If your rosters dramaticly change every year you will fail. People must get to know the players in the league before they get excited about it. Draft young talented players and keep them in the league as long as you can, don't waste time with the Vicks of the world. 2. Unique rules-Don't re-write the rules used in the NFL, but there are plenty of things that can be changed to make the league special. One example is overtime rules. Why not promote field goal kicking? If a game is tied after regulation have a kick-off. Each teams kicker "challenges" the other by marking a distance and attempting. Alternate who marks the distance until one of the kickers makes and the other misses. 3. Fantasy Football-Lets face it, the largest reason the NFL is so popular over the past 10 years is the ease of fantasy football due to the internet. This may be the greatest asset your league can exploit, don't underestimate how important this is. If you start a great fantasy hosting site for your league you will see success. Don't waste your time with "pick'em" and salary cap junk, go the full game full out!

Commish, First of all I'd like to tell you that this is a wonderful idea. One idea would be to spread the league out to other cities. Las Vegas and LA are great but NY and SF, are stretches the 49ers fan base is loyal, and the fact that NY already has 2 teams may be tough. I think having a teams in smaller cities with large football backgrounds would be a great idea. A team in the south is necessary like S. Carolina or N. Carolina. Also to have a team in Detroit would be ideal, with the lions struggling like they are and will be. Good luck and you got my support.

Michael Vick is serving his time for what he did. How does that make him any different than anyone else who did something wrong and paid for it? He has suffered for this and, provided there is evidence that he is redeemed, he deserves a chance. If the UFL doesn't do something with him, the NFL (Notorios Felons League) will jump at a chance to sign him back. Think Pacman, Plaxico, etc.... they all get too many chances before they are punished. Michael has already been punished. Enough already!

Re: Commissioner Huyghue's Blog - Quality of UFL Players

people are acting like michael vick committed the biggest crime known to man, he made a mistake and he's paid his debt to society, it's no different than if it had been you, there's no one here who can say that they haven't made a mistake, sometimes people have a lapse in judgment and do stupid things, but that's no need to condemn him and label him a social misfit, we have to learn to be more understanding and forgiving to those who make mistakes, you have to put yourself in his position, and think what if it were you?

Congradulations United Football League. The future is yours. Sports fans are growing tired of the NFL and its monoply. The NFL has become arrogrant. Its biases in responding to misconduct are evident. Vick was a first time offender. He has been maliciously malinged in the media. Vick has been harshly and irrationally punished for actions committed. After conpleting his sentencing he should be allowed to return to the field. Vick was a naive young man who trusted friends who abused his trust. He has learned a valuable lesson. I gurantee you he will come forth a changed individual. I gurantee you he will be a much stronger athlete because he has something to prove. When athletes attempted to support Vick they they were harshly treated. The NFL proved itself weak and non supportive of one of its's members. They gave into the pressure of PETA, a group with questionable motives. Please show yourself to be strong and not easily intimidated. Allow Vick to play. I gurantee others will be watching. Even those who proclaim against Vick will be watching. They might wish that he might fail, but they will be watching. VICK WOULD BE A STAR ATTRACTION FOR THE UNITED FOOTBALL LEAGUE. IF YOU TAKE THE RISK YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. i HOPE THESE COMMENTS ARE ENTERED. OTHERS COMMENTS WHICH I ATTEMPTED TO WRITE NEVER MADE IT TO THE SCREEN. iF I EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM THAN I AM SURE OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLAM.

In order to get players with marketable premier talent that are not already in the NFL you may need to sign players with questionable characters. If they are suspended from the NFL for disciplinary reasons, this league could be their chance to prove that they have learned from their mistakes. But if they continue to make those mistakes they should be out of the UFL. Therefore all players should have a one strike and your out policy. Getting in legal trouble for selfish stupid reasons doesn't just hurt the player, it hurts the team leaving a hole on the field to be filled with a less prepared player to take over. This can ruin a season and frustrate fans.

Do you really think Vick is remorseful about his actions? I truly believe he is only sorry he got caught. How can you say he is a non-violent offender? He was KILLING dogs! I don't usually agree with PETA but he was MURDERING dogs. That is definitely violent. He was not that good in the NFL. He is not a capable quarterback. He should have been converted to a running back. Also, does no one remeber him flipping the bird to fans who booed him becuase he was not a good quarterback? This should be a family oriented league and Vick should absolutely NOT be welcomed into it. This is supposed to be a league for true football fans who don't get enough from the NFL. It does not need to try to appeal to the popular media.

I don't believe it is self righteous to expect our athletes to live up to... at best... common decency. The UFL is a start up and it's public image is very important! I'm just hoping the league will have standards we can all be proud of.

In my opinion i think you guys are taking the proper approach to forming this league and I'm very grateful . Slow & steady, tying up the loose ends and cutting unwanted threads should lead you to great success. Patience is what the fans will need, the owners and even the players. Regarding Michael Vick, I said it before on other blogs and I'll say it on this one, he's serving his time for the crime he has been convicted of. I think he deserves a second chance. If you open the doors to him and others like him and monitor the way he or they conduct themselves and they understand that a second chance is usually the last chance, there should not be any problems. I do hope that you will give the opportunity to play pro ball to others than just the selected players of the NFL. I understand that following the well established NFL will lead to quicker results but it seems you would wind up doing the same thing they are doing and you wind up missing out on talent pools not normally tapped by the NFL. I won't go so far as the other fan and suggest that the tryouts be that wide open that the average-Joe can enter... realistically speaking, I don't want pay a ticket for someone that I might be able to beat in 40. I'm talking about the smaller schools or even semi-pro teams. Maybe even invite talent from the semi pro teams from the state of each franchise to a separate combine. Just a thought.

In regards to a sport that has gambling involved, I'm sorry, a guy who threw away a 9 digit contract on illegal gambling is someone I simply cannot trust playing in a league where potentially $millions can be wagered on. Now, if the UFL was not a wagering league, I'd say give him a chance.

Best of luck to the United Football League! Hope to see the following: 1. Quality Coaches and Front Office staffs. 2. Drafting and signing of players from local and regional colleges via territorial rights system. 3. Signing some "name" players from the NFL , Arena League and CFL. Not superstars with outlandish contracts, but players who of high quality with some name recognition. 4. Fan participation and possibly ownership in some form. We here at the Virtual USFL will be following the league and we wish you good luck!

I really would like to see the UFL walk the fine line in signing high profile players like this, (i.e. Vick, Jones, and others) Be very careful if you bring these players in your league. The league may get the publicity, but it may be BAD publicity, something this league doesnt need. I would vote NO on this issue.

Focusing on the QB position, below is a list of players that would make a good fit in the UFL: Booty, John David Dixon, Dennis Ainge, Erik Brennan, Colt Woodson, Andre' Flynn, Matt Smith, Troy Zambranski, Jared Young, Vince White, Pat And there are many more.

About Vick, I think that the marketing would be good for the league. I don't know that I could root for the guy but I am sure that a lot of people could and I really want to see this league survive. Too bad it is being played in the fall not the spring. I think that spring football is a void that needs filled now. With the AFL failing though, perhaps there will be some interested owners, players, and team personnel to make this league an immediate success. Here's hoping. By the way, have there been any announcements about how the draft will work and how player assignment to teams will work? I can't wait to see some rosters and coaching staff for each team. I can't wait to see teams...

Bring Vick in along with a strong-worded statement (made both privately to Vick and publicly to fans) that any actions that reflect poorly on the UFL will trigger the immediate reaction of expulsion from the league. This bylaw will be applied to all employees: all players, coaches, and personnel will be given one shot in this league. This could prove to be a potential marketing gem; for every article about the "sixteenth chance" the Bengals give Chris Henry, there will be a line or two about how the United Football League does not allow criminals to continue employment. This way, bringing Vick in is a no-lose situation: either he comes in, behaves himself, and attracts many viewers because of his on-field feats or he comes in, messes up once, and is thrown out of the league, leading to respect from potential viewers who would expect a startup league to hold onto Vick for as long as possible.

The United Football League will be a success. People are looking for something new. The NFL has become a monoply. They have become arrogrant. The United Footrball League will give talented players who have often been sidestepped by the NFL a chance to demonstrate their talents. As a recent example demonstrated, a backup quarter back was forced into the position of team quarterback when the desired quarterback decised to switch teams. The backup quarterback has little experience on the field. An individual player can sit on the bench for a number of years without being given the opportunity to display his talents. Unlike the NFL the NBA used its bench. Michael Vick should be given an opportunity to play. He has paid his dues. The NFL did not support him when he needed them most. They sevely punished Michael for his offense while taping others on the shoulder who had committed much greater offenses. Please do not allow those who continue to speak out against Michael to intimidate you as they intimidated the NFL. Michael would draw attraction to the team. Even those who protest against Michael will be there supporting him. Michael is a star. he will continue to be a star. He is a humble young man. He had no prior offenses. The NFL has given some players who engaged in offenses worse than those of Michael's second chances. Think about this. Why haven't the Falcons released Michael if they hate him as they pretend.

If the UFL will target players who represent your core values, then bringing Michael Vick on board tells me that your league's core values are very low due to his dog fighting operation. I mean the guy murdered dogs by hanging them if they didn't perform. He will always be known for what he did no matter what he does in the future. You need to not worry about getting someone in who already has a name. Get somebody that will MAKE a name. Create your OWN face. Don't rely on what someone else has already done. THAT will be what turns heads.

One thing I hope to see from this league is different types of player talent. The NFL is a league where the differences in offensive and defensive systems is minute, you are limited (due to the talent levels and risk to reward factors) to a hand full of pro-style systems, Smash-mouth and West Cost on offense, 3-4 vs 4-3 on defense. In the AFL this was even more true partly by design and rule restrictions. I hope that this league encourages teams to look for players with a wider range of skill sets. Go ahead and see if a team can find a QB to run an option drive for a series or two each game, or why not come up with a team to run a 2 QB set with some frequency? There are 100's of colleges in the NCAA that run the non NFL systems and looking to recruit based of that would be a great way to get players.

I think the league should have open workouts if this is a league for the fans. Allow every "U" the fan an opportunity as well as targeting some high profile names. I believe thats what the average sports fan hates about the NFL its a them and us relationship. Make and allow everyone to feel like not "Us" or "Them" but "We" with the UFL. Have private combines have league targeted free agents and have drafted college stars but open it up too.

Isn't the purpose of him serving prison time to punish him for his actions? I truly do believe that he regrets what he did, and I'm in full support of him when he gets out. He is still young, can still play, and deserves at least one more chance. It's not too late for him to repair his image, I mean the only reason people hate him so much is because he was so darn good and popular. If this had happened to someone like Kliff Kingsbury, it really wouldn't be that big of a deal. It would also bring an exceptional amount of media attention to the UFL, as well as put butts in seats...its just the way it goes. Look at Barry Bonds; people hated him, but masses of people still flocked to Giants games to watch him, and only him, because he was electric. Bottom line is the guy made a huge mistake, and he's paying for it big time already (prison sucks), don't further crucify him for his actions.

if vick serves his "debt to society" to the satisfaction of the appointed authorities, i don't see why he can't have a place in the UFL, or any other pro league. allowing vick -- and others who may have stumbled in the past -- a fresh start is by no means an indication of a league that will do anything to attract big-time players to generate the most revenue. letting said athelets slide when an infraction DOES occur, however, would be. additionally, i don't think we can make a blanket judgement about persons with checkered pasts. as a non-violent offender, vick -- with a clean bill from the state -- could easily be IN. i don't see this being a problem if he stays on the straight and narrow (and you can chuck him if he doesn't). maurice clarett, on the other hand? lawrence phillips? now we're talking about something far different. there's a line to be drawn, for sure. let's just be careful not to draw it too early for no other reason than to appease our own self-righteousness.

I have high hopes for the UFL, mainly because I am sick and tired of the ridiculous amounts of money that the NFL spends on overrated players. This league, if it turns out the way I hope it does, will be the perfect alternative and addition to the high priced games of professional football today.

Michael Vick has done his time, and his market value is too great to pass up. He'll sell tickets, merchandise, and create much needed publicity for a start-up league operating alongside the NFL giant. I say sign him.

I would really be against bringing Vick in, he's just not the type of guy that i can cheer for. But, ultimately, I guess he would bring the UFL some instant recognition. I'm sure the vote will end up being in favor of Vick coming, but if ends up on my home team, I'll have a really, really hard time buying tickets for those games.

I think opening the doors to Michael Vick would ultimately send the wrong message. Although his athletic abilities are mind boggling, you risk being associated with his personal and decision making abilities; which he has shown that he in not capably of making sound judgment off the field. Not all of us was raised in the best of situations, but we made a decisionto either get out and change the hand we were dealt or stay and become a prisoner of our environment. If you want to soar like an eagle, you don’t hang out with ducks. He needs counseling and behavioral training… The ole saying; your network is your net worth proves right in his case – he lost so much to gain what?

I think it would be good to Bring a Big profile player like Vick to come in this league, but I don't think this should be a league of NFL throwbacks... There are already too many Leagues that have alot of NFL throwbacks . The United States of America has a pool of Athletes that can bring money as well as Great role models in the community...

There is a fine line when dealing with a player such as Micheal Vick. I believe the young man has made a bad decision in life as we all have. He is paying the price for his actions now. We all deserve a second chance and being that he does understand the choice that he made was unwise and is remouresful for it he should be given the oppurtunity to play again. We have to be careful on categorizing all players that get in some form of trouble with the law. The UFL should allow him to participate in their league if they strongly feel that he is an asset to the league. We all know that he will sell tickets but we also can give our children someone to look at and say "we all make mistakes in life. The key is to correct our mistakes and strive to do things the right way."

I wish the league the best and hope to attend some games, but I'd be inclined to boycott if Vick joins the league. There are plenty of other up-and-coming young men from the college ranks who can replace him. You can also lure other NFL guys who might jump ship. This is like what the ABA did with the NBA. Ultimately, the ABA ended-up proving themselves with home grown guys like Dr. J. and the merger happened. Do it on your own with guys you can go to bed thinking that they could be a role model for your kids. Best of luck!

Re: Commissioner Huyghue's Blog - Quality of UFL Players

No! I think, though it would create buzz around the league, it is a PR nightmare. There are already, based on supposition, people calling the UFL "The All Convict League". If you are trying to make the league a "family" environment where role models are created, why go after a convicted felon. There are many talented players out there with a clean pedigree and the FOOTBALL can stand on its own. Please don't let this league be an outlet for ego-centric, arrogant felons who think the life has two sets of rules. Michael Vick deserves a second chance- yes- but let not the UFL come running after him. This sends the wrong PR message and will sour many on the leagues mission statement. "If you don't stand for anything , you'll fall for evrything" Go UFL- send the right message to our kids!

I'm a big fan of Vick for your league and I think he is a headline player you would need to media like espn and sportscenter. I also think you could go after Star college players but not good pro player Ex. Dixon Hawaii's QB... etc.

This is definitely a league created for the average football fan and I for one am glad that the fans finally have a voice. I believe Michael Vick deserves a second chance. He made a bad decison and he's paying for it right now. I believe he's remorseful and eager to make amends for his past actions. On that note, I think it would be a win-win situatiom for the Ufl and for Mr. Vick to repair his image and by creating a gigantic buzz for the Ufl. Imagine the publicity! Either positive or negative. Its true what they say any publicity is good publicity. And this league needs a star! The 2009 Ufl season is going to be very interesting indeed!

While Michael Vick may be an outstanding football player, if the league truly wishes "to create a family oriented League," Michael Vick is certainly not one to contribute to that. He has had his chance in professional sports and he blew it. Allowing him to play again sets a horrible precedent: do your crime, do your time and come on back, we don't care!
Re: Commissioner Huyghue's Blog - Quality of UFL Players

Hands down, Michael Vick should not return. He has sent a horrid message to our children (and adults), and he does NOT DESERVE to play. His behavior has been the opposite of what the league represents, and you need to uphold whether your standards have worth, or not. By not allowing him to return, you will tell the world that his choices were poor and unacceptable. His choices led to pain and death of others- on purpose! He knew exactly what he was doing. It is a sick state of mind. Do you really want that to represent you? The world is waiting to hear your response. Michael was not a victim, he was a perpetrator by choice! Slapping him on the hand is an insult to the public. There are thousands and thousands of people opposing his return. Sometime we need to make a stand, which will not appease everyone. My children are waiting for your choice (and their friends, etc.) Thank you for your time.

It would be a very big mistake to sign Vick. He was not only involved in dog fighting. He used vast sums of money from his football contract to begin and maintain a criminal enterprise. The activities of this enterprise centered on animal cruelty, countless felonies; not to mention the illegal gambling, dog fighting, torture, physical punishment and torture as well as murder of dogs. From a business perspective I can not imagine a worse way for a league launch. Vick's talents on the field have been irreversibly scarred by his conduct. The American people (most not all) will not stand behind Mr. Vick as a player nor will they support a team he plays for (even when winning). Mr. Vick is arguably a terrorist - he unleashed murderous and terroristic actions on those dogs for pleasure and profit. He should not play nor be allowed to play. The UFL will be better for it and gain far more support for opposing Mr. Vick's employment by any of their teams or the league directly. Johnny

I think that you should persue Michael Vick. He could be a big player for you league. Anybody that you could get that are his calibur of a player would be good. You should also persue Shaun Alexander. But letting a criminal like Michael Vick into the league is a win-lose situation. If he gets into your league and is a good player and dosen't mess up then he will get you more viewers. But if he comes in and messes up and then thats when you know its time to let him go.

We should have a blog or forum to identify which players by position from both the college game and the benches of the NFL that fans would like to see in the UFL. If Chase Daniels and Tim Tebow dont get a chance to play QB in the NFL, I hope they get to continue their career in the UFL. They are exciting to watch.

As far as personnel for the UFL. I think your league should be one that have players of high moral character, professional ability, loyalty and dedication to the league and their team. it should be one that exhibits strength in its League leadership as well as the local franchises. I would love to read your Mission Statement. Could you make that available on your website? I love this Sport. I have played it most of my adult life, and coached young kids for the past 26 years before retiring. The more opportunities that are offered these fine young men, the more rewarded is our society. I think rather than focusing on the likes of Vick, you should focus on talent that's been underutilized and really show just how good some guys who don't get given their chances can be. For example, I'd love to see the UFL give some consideration to International players. The game is starting to get more popular abroad, but there's only so far it can go with there being no real opportunities for foreign players to play at a high level, except for Kickers and Punters. I'm sure there are plenty of great athletes abroad who'd be able to contribute to the UFL, and it would really add an international flavour that the NFL lacks.

The sense I'm getting about Vick, mostly judging by the statements he has made, is that the guy has learned his lesson. My prediction is that if he does become part of the UFL he will be grateful for the second chance and the opprotunity to show that he is a different person now. If the goal is to promote positive core values then signing Vick could be a smart move instead of an iffy one since he has somthing to prove, I think he wants to show everyone that he can represent the positve instead of the negative. He seems to have really matured so I say sign him. If he comes in and is a positive team player which I think he will be then it'd be huge for the league So I say sign him, I really can't imagine him acting the way he did before the jail sentence, he seems like a totally different person now. the chance for Vick to prove himself is one of the reasons I'm excited about this league, lord knows the NFL won't even give him a chance

Come on people.... the man is a tremendous athlete and we would be a fool not to bring someone with his marketing credentials into the league. Yes. Yes he has made mistakes, but what person can look in the mirror and say they never have. He has spent the last couple of years shackled behind bars. How much does he have to pay for this crime. We have all broken the law before I'm sure, in some fashion. Are we not a land of forgiveness or does this not apply to him. The man has done so much for the NFL and the Atlanta organization, I feel it is wrong for the NFL to turn their back on him after one mistake (continuos but one). Love him or hate him everyone deserves a second chance. Prison is in place to rehabilitate and punish criminals. Let him play football and prove he has become a better person.

Michael Vick would be great for the UFL, the publicity would be so high for the team he gets on. I know for a fact SportsCenter will run some kind of highlights from him for every game he plays showing some great publicity to people who haven't heard of the league. Everyone deserves second chances. The team who gets him will most likely win the championship and that will also be great publicity. If you want the publicity, get Vick, he made his mistakes and I know for a fact he's itching to get back on the field, so he will be dominant in his first season of the league.

I think you should most definitely go after Michael Vick, but you should also go forth to the media and fans, with a statement regarding how not "bad" but terrible actions will not be tolerated. Also, the best way to compete with the NFL, is to financially compete for the players, but be smart about it. Do not anty up and hand over a lot of money to Terrell Owens or Chad Johnson or Larry Johnson or any other player that can/could be a cancer for your young start-up League. You may also want to start thinking about the NFL Draft this year in April. You should also try to get head coaches for your teams start from the college ranks, because they already know how to handle and coach young players. Coaches like: Pete Caroll, Bob Stoops, Kirk Ferentz, Urban Meyer, Mike Leach and so on... Good Luck
